Who we are
Greater Nelson Economic Development is all about collaboration. Together, we’re building a sustainable, vibrant, and resilient economy for Nelson and the surrounding areas—one that works for all community members and businesses.
Our partnership is made up of the City of Nelson, Regional District of Central Kootenay Areas E & F, Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce, and Community Futures Central Kootenay.
With an advisory committee of community and business leaders and a coordinating committee focused on action, we ensure our work aligns with what matters most to our region.
Community Projects

Workforce Housing
Housing is a cornerstone of our community’s economic health, impacting our ability to attract and retain workers, sustain local businesses, and support long-term prosperity. Since 2018, we’ve focused on addressing housing challenges, with a spotlight on workforce housing. Learn more about how collaborative initiatives, like our work with local governments and non-profit housing developers, are driving practical solutions by visiting our Community Projects page.

Skilled Worker Immigration Pilots
Greater Nelson Economic Development was a strong supporter of bringing the West Kootenay Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, as well as the subsequent Rural Community Immigration Pilot, to our region. Recognizing the value of attracting and retaining skilled workers—including many international students—these programs have enriched our communities, addressed workforce shortages, and strengthened the local economy. Visit our Community Projects page to learn more about these impactful initiatives and their lasting benefits for the region.

Disaster Preparedness & Economic Resilience
At Greater Nelson Economic Development, we’re here to help local businesses prepare for the unexpected with tools and resources for disaster preparedness and business continuity. From creating plans to leveraging community partnerships, we support economic resilience so your business can recover and thrive after challenges. Visit our Community Projects page to learn more about how we’re strengthening our community’s ability to navigate disruptions.

Business Climate Advisor
Launched in 2022, the Business & Climate Advisor program helps local businesses take meaningful steps toward sustainability. Aligned with the Nelson Next Community Climate Plan, it provides tools, knowledge, and funding opportunities to support cost-effective climate initiatives.
